Memory of Flight
A small bird rests on a section of barbed wire . Imagined birds soar above. Between flights of freedom there are periods of stasis and yet the potential for Liberty is always there.
I like to make works based on found photography and created scenarios without distinguishing the source , , rather like divining or inviting the endless images in the world to participate in the work.
This painting is oil on copper – the copper plate has been etched prior to painting to create slightly raised areas and the difference in material quality of shiny and dull metal that work with the enamel like paint texture in the impasto areas . I like to address the craft aspect of painting that is so often shunned in favour of concept . It is my view that the two cannot and should not be separated .
