Fight or Flight
Fight or flight: A physiological reaction that occurs in response to a perceived harmful event, attack, or threat to survival.
In this piece, I wanted to represent my current mental state; alternating between both fight and flight modes, searching for a place of stillness, balance and harmony. I also wanted to reframe “tension” and discover positives within negatives.
The work is about movement and balance. Fight, being represented by the solid and strong shapes that feel grounded and heavy, whilst fluid, sweeping lines represent flight. I had an organic approach to making the work. Feeling my way and exploring the relationship between cause and effect, chance and choice. Letting the material take the lead, giving myself over to the process, and contemplating structure vs uncertainty.
